How many of your own horses to place in one event?

Postby auburnsilver » Tue Jan 20, 2009 1:10 am

Would it be better to place one of your horses in an event or more?

For an example, in 3 day eventing, I can enter any number, up to 4.
I was thinking, if I placed 2 horses in one event, and one got 2nd and one got 4th, it would have been better if I only entered one because my second horse could have placed if not for my first horse. However, if I enter more of my own horses in one event, I have a better chance of at least one of them placing, and earning me money, right? What do you think?
If I win an auction or outbid, please PM to let me know =]

Each player can only enter 4 horses of all their ranches combined into an event, there's no way around this and you can get into trouble if you're caught trying it.

I think she's asking strategy of eventing. I usually enter two horses in an event. But if you have two horses that are placing consistently, I might enter them one at a time for a bigger payoff.

If you have an incredible horse that you would like to try to get on the top horses list or something, you should probably event it alone, but if you aren't that concerned with your horses' individual records and are just looking to bring in some money, then I'd say go with as many as 4 at a time.
Just depends on what you are trying to do.

I do a lot of driving. I have two older drivers, 2 about optimum age ones and 2 young ones. As the oldies retires and the others move up, I start a new pair. I always do two at a time though that way I can enter the 2 horse team events with them as well. :)

Yep, I enter only one if it's a good horse and in a consistent type event. But for more random type events like trail, dressage, 3-day etc I enter however many I feel like, up to 4.

I generally only enter one at a time, just seems like my odds of winning are better if I don't have to compete with myself.
